Your typical bouncer?

Probably far from it - this guy seems to be one really mean and depraved individual.

According to guardian.co.uk, the 39-year-old is on trial, accused of murdering two women (19 and 22 years old). Both reportedly died after being struck with a blunt instrument. The man is also on trial for two attempted murders and one count of kidnap and false imprisonment.

According to the paper he has previous court appearances dating back to when he was 13. He had admitted offences ranging from vehicle theft, having an offensive weapon to assaulting a police officer.

He was jailed for a total of 13 months in 1991 for hitting a constable in the face, common assault on a special constable and failing to surrender.

In February 2005, he was jailed for eight months and banned from driving for seven years for dangerous driving after being stopped on a motorway hard shoulder at 70mph.

And this guy was working as a bouncer (doorman)...

Now, you may all say that most bouncers are not like this person here, and fortunately you're right. However, and this is my point, there are too many in that line of work who pose a real danger to those around them.

How do I know - I used to work the doors myself. It used to be worse, but there are still too many young guys out there with far too much testosterone, short fuses, little or no empathy, steroids, drug abuse, criminal connections and what have you not.

Norwegian psychologist Per Isdal describes in his book "Meningen Med Volden" ("The Purpose of Violence" - unfortunately available in Norwegian only as far as I know) amongst other things how one bouncer used his work to set people up for violence. A scary read; even more so if you knew that there are more guys like this out there.

One small piece of advice: Do not talk back at bouncers - it really does you no good at all. What it potentially can do is get you and others hurt.

And by all means - let us not forget that most of these folks are nice, hard working, under-paid and under a lot of stress. Be nice, boys and girls :-)

Lame excuse

In our series of lame excuses "It wasn't me", we present ... (drum roll) ... a spider :-)
So, let's see, we have guys blaming their penis (of course, what else), a spell, alcohol, insanity, drugs, friends, a twin brother, the bogeyman and what have you not.
And now ... a spider bite.

In Australia, a man who kidnapped and raped a woman blamed his actions on a spider, according to local media.

The man told a court that the poison from a funnel-web spider bite had left him with a viral illness which led to his actions.

The defendant, who kidnapped and raped the woman in 1997, was sentenced to eight years in jail.

Offenders are getting younger

California -- Courts have seen the number of sex offense cases involving juvenile offenders rise dramatically in recent years, an Associated Press review of national statistics found, and treatment professionals say the offenders are getting younger and the crimes more violent.

Some psychologists blame the increase - 40 percent over two decades - on a society saturated with sex and violence and the fact that many of the accused were themselves victims of adult sexual predators. Others say there aren't more children committing such crimes, there is simply more awareness, better reporting and a general hysteria about sex offenders.

The number of children under 18 accused of forcible rape, violent and nonviolent sex offenses has steadily risen, from 24,100 children in 1985 to 33,800 in 2004, the AP's analysis found. Violent offenses include attempted rape and sexual assault, while nonviolent offenses including fondling, statutory rape and prostitution.

The nose-hold

Are you telling me this "biting various parts" woman is having an anger management problem? And another thing - what's so unusual about the nose-hold? Or is this a perhaps a secret Maori warrior variation that I don't know about?

Story:
New Zealand -- A New Plymouth police constable was forced to apply a nose-hold on an offender to try to stop her from biting her. The unusual hold was clamped on a woman in February after police were called to a disturbance.

When the female officer and her partner arrived, they found the woman arguing with her son. She then turned on the constables, spitting in their faces, jumping on them and trying to bite various parts of their body.

Despite being pepper-sprayed, the 34-year-old unemployed New Plymouth woman punched the male officer three times in the head. The female officer tried to restrain her, but the woman clamped her jaws down on her arm, piercing her uniform and skin.

After the constables finally managed to restrain her with a nose-hold they needed medical treatment for cuts and severe bruising.

In court, the woman admitted injuring with intent and assaulting police. Her defence counsel said his client was undergoing counselling for several issues, including anger management.

Scary attitudes

Arcane moral values and scary attitudes towards women are being presented in a recent report from a research group at the Norwegian Attorney General.

The report shows that several jury members in rape cases often times will question the moral character of the female victim - "nice girls don't act like this", seems to be a common allegation. Members of the jury will many times challenge the actions of the victim prior to the alleged rape.

On the other hand, the defendant may likely get sympathy from these jury members.

The people in this report had been jury members in six cases which had overturned a previous court sentence.

One may really begin to wonder the jury selection process ...

Hazards at work, 31

A French television host, accused of attacking and sexually harassing Air France cabin staff while under the influence of alcohol, will appear in court next month, a court official said on Monday.

The man was detained on Sunday after returning from a visit to South Africa. According to French media, witnesses said he insulted cabin staff on board an Air France flight to South Africa on February 13, fondled a fellow passenger and slapped an air steward who tried to prevent him from drinking.

He was forcibly restrained, finishing the flight tied to his seat, media said, and cabin staff filed charges against him.

Attempted rapist killed

India -- The Delhi High Court today acquitted a 30-year-old woman sentenced to life for killing her molester, holding that her act amounted to self-defence and not murder.

It was held that Simmi, a resident of Daryaganj was only trying to protect herself and did not "intend" to murder her assailant.

A Sessions Court had in September 21, 2006 sentenced Simmi to life imprisonment on finding her guilty of bludgeoning her atacker, identified as a vagabond, to death with a heavy stone in the early hours of April 22, 2004.

In her appeal, Simmi, through her counsel, contended that Mastana had attempted to rape her under the influence of alcohol. She had "pushed him away" in self-defence and he had fallen on a stone, fatally injuring himself on the head.

Hazards at work, 28

I'm willing to bet that this perpetrator tailgated his intended victim. If you start to look at how employees use the doors when they enter back-rooms etc., it is easy to see how this is possible. It is scarily simple when someone is unaware!

A 20-year-old man was charged Saturday with attempted rape in an attack in the backroom of a K-Mart store.

Jackson County prosecutors accused Wilbert L. Hutchinson of following the victim, an employee, into the backroom then hitting and choking her.

According to court records, a security guard spotted Hutchinson as he followed the employee into the backroom and decided to check on the situation. When he arrived, he spotted Hutchinson choking the woman with both hands and trying to pull her pants down.

The security guard used a choke hold to get Hutchinson off the woman.

Courtroom incidents

Arizona -- "Because of the increased number of incidents in courtrooms over the last several years, we wanted to give court staff the ability to defend themselves if the need arises," Navajo County Sheriff’s Office Training Sgt. Matthew Searles said regarding a new program designed to teach civilian court staff basic self-defense techniques.

The first class was held Sept. 22, and staff members from the county attorney’s office, the probation department, pre-trial services, court security and court administration attended. In addition to hands-on defense training, they received instruction on Arizona’s use of force laws and on courtroom safety.

"The class has an emphasis on observation and safety awareness while in the courtroom, watching who’s there, where you sit and recognizing behavior patterns, basically increased observation skills and awareness," Searles noted.

No kidding...

A 30-year-old salaryman was riding on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line in Tokyo recently when he decided to make a pass at the woman sitting beside him. So he reached over and began fondling her thigh. Although she resisted, he kept at it for more than 10 minutes.

The man was collared on the train, then arrested on molestation charges, and has recently appeared in court.

"Did you really think you could have your way with the victim despite her resistance?" his lawyer asked while he was on the stand.

"That had crossed my mind," he told the court.

"His explanation that he thought he could make out with a resisting woman shows a complete misunderstanding of female psychology."

No.... Are you saying women don't like being fondled by strangers? Strange creatures!

Stalking teen

Here's a "classic" example of someone stalking, and most certainly evaluating, an intended victim, and then striking as she approaches her resident.

It is scary that many people are not aware about 1. What to do if they are being followed, and 2. The fact that perpetrators usually strikes (make up their mind to strike) at a certain time.
This is usually as the intended victim is getting to his/her destination, or close to his/her destination.

Story:
Canada -- A 28-year-old Vancouver man was in court this week in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a teen in Burquitlam.

Last Friday, a 16-year-old girl boarded SkyTrain at Lougheed Town Centre to go shopping at MetroTown, according to Coquitlam RCMP.

During the ride, she noticed a man staring at her. He got off at the MetroTown station, followed her around the Burnaby mall and continued to follow her on her way home.

At around 4:45 p.m., Coquitlam RCMP said, the man sexually assaulted the girl just steps from her home.

The teen broke free and ran inside, and her father called police and watched the suspect as he was leaving. He kept the suspect in sight until policed arrived.

The suspect is "well known to police" for similar offences, police said.

It was 'Junior', not me!

Holy Moses - reading things like this really makes me ashamed to belong to the same gender. I know guys can be real simple, but this...
There are things that are pathetic - things that are way past pathetic - and then there's stuff like this. Mama Mia!
Kind of reminds me about the (great) song: "My piano's been drinking - not me".

Story:
Nigeria -- A 21-year-old man who was Wednesday convicted for attempted rape told a Jabi Chief Magistrates' Court that his penis should be blamed for the offence.

In her judgment, Chief Magistrate Ajoke Ad-epoju averred that though the court could reason with the plea of the convict, she was not impressed by his attitude.

That's just brilliant

What an absolutely brilliant move from someone being tried on assault charges...

Story:
Olympia, Washington -- The gavel wasn't the only thing getting a pounding in a Washington state courtroom.

A judge declared a mistrial after she saw defendant Justin Jacobson sock his court-appointed lawyer. Jacobson was being tried on assault charges.

Witnesses say Jacobson backhanded his attorney without warning. Guards immediately subdued Jacobson. Judge Paula Casey declared a mistrial because the incident was witnessed by prospective jurors.

Lawyer W. Larry Jefferson says getting smacked by a client isn't something you expect. He's withdrawn from the case.

Grrrrls!

A 13-year-old seventh-grader was taken into custody by an Auburn Police Department School Resource Officer Friday morning after she punched another girl, knocked her to the ground, grabbed her by the hair and slammed her head to the floor, police said.

It is the second incident this week at Auburn Enlarged City School District's East Middle School involving a female student who will be petitioned into Cayuga County Family Court because of a misdemeanor charge. On Tuesday, another East Middle School student was arrested for the possession of a knife, which she intended to use to assault another girl, police reported.

Acquittal upheld

Canada: The Supreme Court upheld the acquittal of a Quebec woman who shot and killed her abusive, alcoholic husband in 1999 after a 31-year marriage.

Her lawyers argued she acted while in a trance-like state brought on by years of abuse and the trial judge also suggested to the jury she might have been acting in self-defence.

She was acquitted, but the Crown argued the two defences—self-defence and "automatism"—are contradictory. The Quebec Court of Appeal agreed and ordered a new trial.

The Supreme Court overturned the appeal court, leaving the acquittal to stand.

A proud mother

And we wonder how someone end up violent and abusive...?
Oh, and please don't go to hard on this poor kid, I'm sure she was only defending herself against brutal police, media and judges.

Read this story, it's funny, but at the same time scary!

14-year-old Leanne Black, up in court in Newbury, Berkshire, over her second drink-driving offence (the first occurred when she was 12), arrived at court and threw eggs at the media and then went completely doolally when told she would be serving four months in a secure training unit, followed by four months under supervision in the community.

Leaping out of the dock she punched Lesley Gilmore, the prosecutor, in the back, threw a jug of water over the magistrates and their clerk, kicked furniture as she ran around probation officers, swept effects off desks and onto the ground, and screamed abuse at the top of her voice until she was dragged off.

Outside court Black’s mother Nora, who has six other children, flashed her considerable backside at photographers, yelling: “Go on then, film this.”

Speaking about her daughter, who has repeatedly been up on charges of burglary, criminal damage, harassment and breaching a curfew, Nora said, “I’m proud of her”, adding that Leanne was “posh” and would make somebody a lovely wife.

Of course, what else?

Everyone goes for the "self-defense" claim it seems. What a load of cr..!
I guess the lawyers are happy about it...

Story:
A woman who died at her Spencer home was apparently suffocated by a ceramic decorative plate, shaped like an Easter bunny, that had been shoved down her throat, authorities said as they charged her husband with murder.

The criminal complaint said Zurkowski initially told police he was hit by his wife and acted in self-defense.

Who's on trial?

This article from South Africa shows you how many court rooms effectively puts the rape victim on trial. This degrading treatment of victims of sexual violence really is a crime in itself!

Article:
Outside the High Court we have rent-a-mob labelling the complainant a bitch, a liar and a whore who deserves to be stoned and burnt.

And should some women still not have absorbed the message from Zuma's court supporters to shut up and take it, the law was there to underline it in bold.

Much of this degradation was achieved through the humiliating cross-examination of her sexual history.

K1 self-defense

Self-defense...? Well, of course! A top-trained fighter killing a 60 year old man - how can it possibly be anything else?

Story:
The retrial of a former international K1 kickboxing champion is underway at the High Court in Palmerston North.
Paul Kingi is accused of the manslaughter of his 60-year-old uncle Rangiwananga Kingi in Dannevirke. Paul Kingi has admitted punching his uncle during an argument over the loan of a bull.
Crown lawyer, Ben Vandekolk, says the punch was delivered with such force and precession it lifted the deceased off the ground, propelling him backwards and causing him to hit his head on the concrete.
