stalking, push-in

Here is a "classic" case of a perpetrator using (at least) two means to get to his intended victim - stalking (following), and a push-in.

Story:
UK -- In Newcastle, police say a man stalked an 18-year-old female in the early hours of March 9 (Sunday morning).

The teenager was walking home from a night out with friends at around 2:30 a.m., and footage from closed circuit TV, shows the intended victim being followed through the city centre.

The assault happened at around 2:40 a.m. The perpetrator followed her inside her complex, grabbed and pushed into her home, before sexually assaulting her. Screaming and kicking him, the young woman forced the attacker to flee her home.

A simple lesson

I bet these Texas parents are more than happy they had their 9-year-old daughter Misty watch a self-defense lesson they saw on TV.

She remembered the lesson well, and a simple kick to the groin may possibly have saved her from being kidnapped, molested or even killed.

The young girl was approached by a man Tuesday at a playground in Allen, Dallas. She fought back hard when the perpetrator grabbed her - kicking, punching, screaming and running away.

The brave girl ran to a friend's house a few blocks away. "I ran. I ran as fast as I could. When I got to her house my heart was pounding so dang hard," the girl said.

You go, girl!

A discovery

My kind of woman completely - this is one smart and tough mama :-)

Story:
Canada -- A Moose Jaw woman credits the Discovery Channel with saving her life after tips she learned on a program about shark attacks helped her fend off an intruder who broke into her apartment in Medicine Hat.

The 27-year-old female was alone in her home around 4:30 p.m. March 25 when she was confronted by a man armed with a crowbar, duct tape and handcuffs.

"I poked him in the eye like you do to a shark that’s attacking you," she said. "I was also trying to fish-hook my fingers inside his lips because I know that hurts. I scratched his hands really good and got as much of my blood on him as possible because I knew he’d have to have my DNA on him and I’d have to have his DNA on me for there to be any evidence."

He acted that way

I commend this woman for fighting back and probably saving her own life.
But seriously, does anyone believe that self-defense/fighting back is as easy as it looks on television?
There's however another far more interesting observation here:
"I was aware of him, I saw him there. I thought he was a caretaker at the cemetery. He acted that way."
Most likely, if you are being that aware about someone, your intuition has told you that something is not right!
Think about it, we will register that someone has legitimate business being around us - like in working there.
If, however we are being aware of the person, there might absolutely be something else we have noticed. This may be that the person acts like it. Really, this phrase alone tells the whole story - acting. This woman has seen already that this was not real.

Story:
Texas -- A 43-year-old man has been charged with attacking a woman at a Beaumont cemetery.

The 45 year old woman from Beaumont said she was visiting her husband's grave on Valentine's Day when she saw the man who would soon attack her.

"I was aware of him," she told us. "I saw him there. I thought he was a caretaker at the cemetery. He acted that way."

The woman says he struck her with decorative items from her husband's grave."They were square cross luminary lights," she said. "He broke them on me. He beat my head to a pulp. I needed stitches in my forehead, left eye and eyebrow. I spent five days in a hospital. My jaw was injured. I had bruises down my cheeks and behind my ears, and scratches on my shoulders. My hands and arms were bruised."

"I'm alive, that's the main thing," she said. "I thanked my big brother for fighting with me while we were growing up because that made me fight that guy. It isn't as easy as it looks on television, but that definitely saved my life because I think he was going to kill me."

Fire!

A simple, yet effective method of self-defense!

Story:
North Texas -- When Deanna got out of her car on a dark corner and a truck pulled up behind her, two men then emerged from the car and suddenly approached her.

"It was from behind, so it was like, 'Give me all your money,'" she said.

At that instant, Deanna said she remembered a self-defense episode of "Oprah" that advised women that yelling fire was usually more effective than yelling help.

"I said, 'Oh no, this is not happening to me,' and screamed, 'Fire!'" she said. Once she began yelling that word, the two men ran off.

Very, very scary

Yes, the Austrian story about the kidnapping and escape of Natascha Kampusch is both fascinating and to some extent scary.
Now there are even rumors that her mother sold her to the guy!
But come on ... Girls becoming scared to go out after dark? It seems like all of a sudden it has become so much more dangerous to move around?
It could be wise some times to stop and reflect for a couple of minutes before running wild with a "media emotion". Like the simple fact that this tragic incident happened years ago.
What is "very, very scary" is the way that people let media influence their thoughts and behaviors, and how we so easily stop being rational about real and perceived dangers.

Story:
The dramatic escape of an 18-year-old Austrian girl after being held in an underground cell for eight years has had a profound impact in this otherwise safe city with many of its citizens, including Indians, scared to go out after dark.

Indians, particularly young girls, say the shocking tale that hogged international headlines earlier this month has scared them so much that many dare not go out of the house after dusk.

"After watching television reports on the Kampusch story, I am really scared to get out of the house. It is very, very scary," said Jasmin Perumadan, a business administration student at Vienna University.

Pushed the door

South Korean movie an TV star Lee Ji-hyun (28), has escaped a kidnap attempt by amateur criminals in her car two hours after they abducted her, it emerged Thursday.

She was threatened by two men said to be in their 20s while she was getting into her car parked in Seoul at around 10:15 p.m. on Monday, police said.

The two, who were armed, forced her to sit on the back seat, handcuffed her wrists and ankles and robbed her of a credit card and some cash as they drove the car away.

But when the men stopped at a local gas pump to fill up the car at around 12:25 a.m., Lee managed to escape.

“When the car was unlocked, I pushed the door with my body and escaped,” police quoted her as saying.

Rolled him out

UK --The 86-year-old woman was watching television at her home in Yelvertoft, last Thursday when she was alerted by her dog, which began growling and barking.

She said: "My living room door opened and a fellow popped his head round the door. I think he was frightened of the dog - she has a ferocious bark. I said, 'where's your ID - I'm going to ring the police'.

The man claimed he was from the Water Board but, as she grappled with him, he grabbed her handbag.

As the dog barked, the woman grabbed a paint roller and hit him.

She said: "He tried to wrestle the roller off me but I pushed him back to the door and said, 'get out'. Then I gave him another tap on the shoulder. If I hadn't had the roller, I would have kicked him where it hurts."

Live on TV

If nothing else this bizarre incident shows that caution and self-restraint is required when discussing certain topics.
Many fights (if not to say wars) have broken out over topics such as religion and politics. The mixture of alcohol and a hot topic is a sure-fire way to have a quarrel...

Story:
A public access show in Tampa nearly turned into a boxing event when a heated debate got ugly.

Internet talk show host Tony Katz walked off the set of his political debate show after exchanging angry words with Hillsborough Commissioner candidate Joe Redner.

The two had been discussing Israel but the debate turned personal when Katz called Redner a liar. Redner called him fat.

Seconds later Katz threw a chair. All of it happened on live television.

Granny floors intruder

That's my kind of gal! I simply love spunky, elderly people!

Story:
A 75-year-old Romanian woman recently floored an intruder with some sharp karate moves she picked up on a TV self-defense show.

The woman from the village of Popeni in Vaslui county woke up to find her self being assaulted. She shouted for help, but none was forthcoming.

Accordingly, she "immobilised" the assailant and then called in the authorities, Romanian paper Ziarul reports.

The 30 year old miscreant has been charged with burglary and attempted rape, although it's clear he can count himself lucky to escape with his vitals intact.
