In Japan, a 34-year-old man from Kawasaki is been charged with rape and attempted rape according to media. His latest victim was a female crew member on a first-class JR train carriage, according to yomiuri.co.jp. The rape occurred April 2 when he showed the crew member, in her 20s, into a restroom.
It is reported that the man also is charged of attempting to rape and injuring another female crew member aboard the train about one week before the rape. This assault also took place in a restroom on board the train.
"I knew female crew members were present in the first-class carriages and so I targeted them. I thought no one would notice because few passengers rode the train at that hour," the man is reported to admit.

In shape
It is without a doubt of great help to be in shape -- both in a physical, as well as mental sense -- if you ever end up in a self-defense situation.
A case in point is this story about a 41-year-old woman from New York City. The intended victim was assaulted by a knife-wielding intruder in her basement apartment.
The woman says her furious, and successful, self-defense response, is due to the fact that she works out at the gym 7 days a week.
When she fought back, by screaming, pushing the intruder and then knocking him in the groin, the man went scurrying out.

Gotta have music
"I can't work out without music."
Some people are never gonna learn until it hits home. Even then, many can't see that they could have done things differently ...
Story:
Wisconsin -- She didn't hear her attacker running up behind her. The 18-year-old woman was listening to her iPod as she rollerbladed along the Janesville bike trail the afternoon of May 24.
She didn't pay much attention to the man she saw sitting on a bench, smoking a cigarette. But a few moments later, he blindsided her with a blow to the head.
Knocked to the ground, she kicked and waved her arms at the assailant. He fled, and she skated home to report the assault.
Another teenager, Rachel, rollerblades the trail every morning. She's not apprehensive because she uses the path in daylight, usually with a friend.
The teenager said she can't carry a cell phone because her skating outfit has no pockets. She also listens to music while skating.
When it was pointed out that the woman attacked was skating alone in daylight without a phone and listening to music, she replied: "I can't work out without music. Where else am I going to work out? I don't enjoy the road."

A bargain
Negotiating with a robber? Sure, why not - as long as you're able to assess the dangers involved, it is absolutely possible at times.
It is of course far better to let a robber have your money without any resistance what so ever. After all, you still have the most important stuff - your life; plus your keys, vital papers, drivers licence, and bank cards.
Story:
Brooklyn, New York -- Two women were attacked at gunpoint in separate subway station incidents just days - and blocks - apart, police said.
One victim managed to bargain her assailant down, and the other held onto her belongings, but suffered a terrible beating.
On May 27, a thug with a silver semi-automatic gun robbed a woman leaving a G-train station at 11 p.m. She stepped off a Queens-bound train and was headed up the stairs, out of the station, when she was attacked.
The man in front of her suddenly wheeled around and pointed the shiny 9mm gun in her face. "Give me your purse," the man said. But the woman stalled, asking, "Can I just give you my wallet?"
When he agreed, she actually pulled out cash from her billfold and handed over the greenbacks - a total of $165.
"Now walk down the stairs," the robber instructed. She complied, turning and heading back down into the station.

Twisted free
Ontario, Canada -- An attempted abduction of the 14-year-old girl has her scared of walking to school during the day.
The incident occurred Friday when the teen was walking to secondary school around 8 a.m. A man pulled up in a red car, got out and tried to grab her. But at five-foot-five and 150 pounds, the teen used her height, weight and self-defence training to her advantage.
"I just knew I didn’t want to get into his car, so I fought back," said the girl. "He grabbed my arm, but I twisted free. Then he grabbed my waist and I just kicked and screamed and elbowed him in the face. Then I ran away."
The girl told South Simcoe police her attacker was in his 20s, about six feet tall. He was clean shaven with a heavy build.

A hood-head
Found this at hollabacknyc blogspot (a great blog by the way!).
Stories like this really makes me ashamed to be a member of the male population. There really are some pathetic and ignorant individuals out there ...
Story:
Tonight around 10 p.m., on a train back to her apartment in Williamsburg, a hooded man seated next to my best friend, a 22 year old woman, whispered in her ear "I am going to follow you when you get up."
He did follow her, just a step behind, up the subway steps of her stop and out onto the street. With great clarity in a life-threatening moment, she stepped inside a bodega, while he stood outside, waiting for her, and was fortunate to find a couple who were willing to walk her the few steps from the market to her apartment door.
When they exited the bodega, the hooded man was still there, waiting for his (potential) victim. Unfortunately, it took the help of two people--a woman to make her feel safe, and a man to protect her-- to allow this woman to arrive home unharmed.
The most important part of this is that my friend is safe, but I feel such anger and rage that men like this, who derive such a false, disgusting sense of power from physically and sexually threatening women in public (or private), can make strong, smart, powerful women like my friend doubt their decision to live alone if they choose, to live free and independent lives, or to merely live at all. I am completely disgusted, and concerned for my friend.

It was a peach
Man, I love stories like these!
Story:
UK -- Three would-be muggers who targeted a pensioner fled empty-handed after their victim, an ex-Army and England boxer, punched one of them on the chin.
Former middleweight George Bayliss, 67, had just drawn his pension when the three men surrounded him and demanded he handed over his money.
"I just threw a left at him – it was a peach, a real cracker," said George.
"I was really angry. I worked hard for that money, I did my time – they're not having it. That was my attitude. If I go down, I go down fighting.
"I think really they were a bit shocked – they picked on the wrong person."
George was in town on Tuesday when he noticed a group of five men hanging around outside the post office in Cornhill.
Three of these men later approached him in St John's Street and demanded he hand over his pension. After he punched one of them, all three ran off.
George, who holds several Amateur Boxing Association titles, still trains and goes running. He has also learnt the martial art Tai Kwon Do and taught his three sons Mark, Ben and Wayne to box.

Courtroom incidents
Arizona -- "Because of the increased number of incidents in courtrooms over the last several years, we wanted to give court staff the ability to defend themselves if the need arises," Navajo County Sheriff’s Office Training Sgt. Matthew Searles said regarding a new program designed to teach civilian court staff basic self-defense techniques.
The first class was held Sept. 22, and staff members from the county attorney’s office, the probation department, pre-trial services, court security and court administration attended. In addition to hands-on defense training, they received instruction on Arizona’s use of force laws and on courtroom safety.
"The class has an emphasis on observation and safety awareness while in the courtroom, watching who’s there, where you sit and recognizing behavior patterns, basically increased observation skills and awareness," Searles noted.

No kidding...
A 30-year-old salaryman was riding on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line in Tokyo recently when he decided to make a pass at the woman sitting beside him. So he reached over and began fondling her thigh. Although she resisted, he kept at it for more than 10 minutes.
The man was collared on the train, then arrested on molestation charges, and has recently appeared in court.
"Did you really think you could have your way with the victim despite her resistance?" his lawyer asked while he was on the stand.
"That had crossed my mind," he told the court.
"His explanation that he thought he could make out with a resisting woman shows a complete misunderstanding of female psychology."
----
No.... Are you saying women don't like being fondled by strangers? Strange creatures!

Wrestled knife away
A 15-year-old girl stabbed and killed a man with his own knife last week in northern Moscow after he purportedly tried to rape her, investigators said.
Around 9 p.m. on a deserted platform at a commuter train station, the girl was apparently approached by a man who produced a knife. The man threatened to kill the girl if she screamed.
"It's my birthday, so you are going to make me happy," the man said, according to police sources.
The girl, who is a gymnast, kicked the man and ran, but she tripped moments later and was caught. The man snatched the girl's phone, and a scuffle ensued during which the girl wrestled the knife from the man and stabbed him in the back.

Self defense training for girls
It's a lesson that proved effective for one Fresno girl, and now police want to make sure other students learn how to fight off a would-be attacker.
(...) said Thursday night's class was a follow-up to one he conducted with the girls back in December. One of the participants in the past session used the lessons she learned in the class to fight off and run away from a would-be attacker.

School curriculum self-defense
I really hope more schools eventually put somthing like this this into their curriculum - great idea!
Story:
South Point School has set on a mission of training all its students in self-defence.
The rise in child abuse and kidnapping cases has prompted the authorities to make karate and yoga compulsory for every student.
Courses made compulsory for self-defence & concentration.
