It's quite typical how many (if not most) teachers, social workers, nurses, doctors and others in similar professions tend to view some forms of verbal and physical harassment/violence as "nothing serious".
Each episode may not be that damaging, but we tend to forget two major things:
1. The sum of all the episodes may add up to be simply too much to handle.
2. If we accept the "lesser incidents", then we are opening the flood-gates for more serious situations.
This article is from 2002, but it shows what many teachers have to deal with on a daily basis. And this will continue as long as teachers are not allowed to use any form of force what-so-ever, plus being skilled in keeping control - visually, mentally, verbally, non-verbally, strategically and physically.
Story:
She has been kicked, bitten, scratched, pushed and hit - but the Doncaster primary school teacher does not consider she has been assaulted.
It is all part of the job nowadays, she says - "water off a duck's back".
Proposing the motion - which was passed unanimously - The teacher told delegates at the Association of Teachers and Lecturers conference that teachers' human rights were breached on a daily basis as they grew to accept verbal and physical attacks.

Almost abducted
Talk about not trusting your instincts...
If an unknown man - looking as scruffy as this fellow here - is following your family around an amusement park, maybe it's time to ask security to check it out? It could just be that there's something fishy going on?
Trust me on this - if you feel that you're being stalked or followed something IS going on! Paranoid? I don't think so, these predators are out there somewhere constantly looking for an opportunity and an easy prey.
Story:
Clay County authorities are investigating after a 6-year-old girl said a stranger tried to kidnap her Tuesday night at Worlds of Fun.
The girl told police she was waiting with a friend while her mother and stepfather rode a roller coaster. The girl said a man approached and told her that he wanted to show her something, and he led her away from her friend.
The girl said the man picked her up and said he was taking her to his car to watch fireworks, but the girl became scared and was able to escape and return to her friend.
The child's mother told police that the man had been following them around the park. She said she had never seen the man before Tuesday.

It was 'Junior', not me!
Holy Moses - reading things like this really makes me ashamed to belong to the same gender. I know guys can be real simple, but this...
There are things that are pathetic - things that are way past pathetic - and then there's stuff like this. Mama Mia!
Kind of reminds me about the (great) song: "My piano's been drinking - not me".
Story:
Nigeria -- A 21-year-old man who was Wednesday convicted for attempted rape told a Jabi Chief Magistrates' Court that his penis should be blamed for the offence.
In her judgment, Chief Magistrate Ajoke Ad-epoju averred that though the court could reason with the plea of the convict, she was not impressed by his attitude.

A campus incident
Some things are painfully clear:
- People tend to think "it don't happen here".
- A campus can be a dangerous place.
- Simple self-defense "tricks" may get you out of a bad spot.
- A push-in is a common way to gain access.
Also it is quite clear that the woman either panicked or was unaware she was being followed - all the time she opened the door to her room.
Story:
A man had followed a young woman onto the elevator and up to her floor and tried to push his way into her room after she unlocked the door.
The woman fought him off with a fist spiked with keys and he fled, but the incident was enough to worry many young women who never thought something like that could happen in their dorm.
