Carjackers killed woman
In Texas, a woman -- a mother of five -- was brutally stabbed to death when she fought back during a carjacking in northeast Harris County (Houston). Now, one of the suspects have been arrested, according to khou.com.
The woman was walking into a mobile phone store when a man, attempting to steal her car, grabbed her car keys. It is believed that the woman fought the would-be carjacker because her 4-month-old daughter was still in the car.
The 24-year-old assailant, which authorities say are an illegal immigrant, stabbed the woman several times. He then got into a waiting car driven by an accomplice. The store's security cameras captured the brutal attack.
Not long before the deadly attack, the assailant was caught in security video stealing beer from a convenience store, police said.
The carjackers -- using knives and targeting women -- reportedly began their crime spree at convenience store Tuesday in Northeast Harris County.
A surveillance video shows the passenger of a car getting out of the vehicle and walking into the store. On of the carjackers then approached the driver, waiting in the vehicle.
Using a knife, he forced her out and she hurried inside, uninjured, police said. Then the second carjacker jumped into the vehicle, hopping in the driver's seat. The stolen car then takes off.
The next day, the same men targeted another woman, police said. Again, the carjacked victim was unharmed. The third woman targeted Wednesday night fought back, and was tragically killed.

More 'kung-shoe'
New York -- A sexual assault occurred early Sunday in a downtown parking garage in Albany, according to dailygazette.com.
At around 3:10 a.m., a 22-year-old woman left a bar downtown and walked to the garage. On her way, she noticed a man following her on the street, according to a police spokesman.
This man then followed her as she walked up the exit ramp to the parking garage. The woman attempted to call police on her cell phone but the man grabbed her phone, threw it to the ground and then tried to get a hold of the woman.
The woman managed to break away and got into her car, the spokesman said, but the man also forced his way into the car, where he got on top of her. The woman continued to fight the attacker inside the vehicle before both reportedly fell out the passenger side and onto the ground.
The determined woman then began to hit the man in the face and eyes with the heel of her dress shoe. She was finally able to get away from the perpetrator.
The woman was later taken to a medical center, where she was treated and released.

Quick thinking
"(...) very good and quick thinking on her part. This probably prevented her from further attacks," an Indianapolis, Indiana police spokesperson said, according to wishtv.com.
Police say the woman was attacked in a parking garage on one of the busiest streets in the downtown area. The incident occurred in the middle of the afternoon when a lot of people were leaving work.
The woman was allegedly entering her car when the suspect put his hand around her mouth and pushed her into the car, police say.
The intended victim pushed the "panic" button on her keychain. When the attacker heard the horn and saw the flashing lights, he took off running.

"Nun", nearly naked
Dang, there are some strange and freaky individuals out there...

One tought lady
This is one tough senior citizen. Hats off to her! Another thing all together is to argue how wise it is to fight against a (potentially armed and desperate) robber.
Source:
California -- Ninety-seven-year-old Dorothy Buckingham is the last person you would think would fight off a robbery suspect. She loves to sew, and recently said she sensed her friend Elizabeth needed help.
It all happened in a Bel Air shopping plaza. Dorothy was waiting for her ride when she saw a friend with a woman she thought was up to no good - noticing the strange woman holding her friend's grocery bag.
"I said 'give me her groceries.' Finally, she said 'give me three dollars'," said Dorothy. That's when things got nasty. Dorothy said the suspect then grabbed her friend's purse. That's when Dorothy went into action.
"We kept jerking back and forth. She tried to hit me, but couldn't because strap was too long," said Dorothy.
Dorothy adds, her adrenaline got her going as she fought off a woman, who was 50 years younger. "I wasn't angry; just determined she wasn't going to get away with it," said Dorothy.
Eventually, the woman let go of the purse. A witness called police who found the suspect in the parking lot.

'Car-go'
... Or car-do ("the way of the car") :-)
Anyhow - a car is a great and versatile self-defense tool!
Story:
UK -- A shopper has told the Old Bailey how she used her car to scare off a man who attacked a 39-year-old housewife. The man is accused of committing the attack four days before allegedly knifing a teenager in Orpington.
On September 26, the woman noticed a man following the victim in a car park. The woman told the jury she had first seen the man loitering by a car park ticket machine near a shopping center.
When she reached her car on the floor below, she noticed the man was following the other shopper. She then heard screams. The court heard the victim had been knocked to the ground and the attacker was on top of her.
The woman then started sounding the horn of her car and shouting at the man. She told the jury the attacker then stood up and looked at her before slowly walking away. She said: "He stopped doing what he was doing and began to walk away. Initially it was quite slow, which I found quite strange considering what he had just done. He seemed quite cool and calm."
Jurors have already been told the suspect is a loner obsessed with Internet porn, including sites which celebrate rape and other forms of sexual violence. The prosecutor told the court the hospital worker spent hours downloading sick stories and pictures from the Internet.

Classic distraction
Here's a classic distraction technique, involving two or more perpetrators. This incident describes a carjacking, but similar methods is used in thefts and robberies as well.
Story:
California -- The 4:03 p.m. carjacking occurred in a Kmart parking.
A 24-year-old man pulled into the lot in his car Saturday afternoon, when a woman approached and began a conversation, according to Antioch police.
While they spoke, the gunman climbed into the driver's-side passenger door, held a revolver to the back of driver's head and ordered him to empty his pockets.
The gunman then ordered the driver out of the vehicle, which he then stole. The woman fled in another vehicle.

Entering your car
Entering you house or your car is the moment you should be aware - unfortunately many are not. We are often preoccupied by things we are going to do, rather than what we are doing right there and then.
Criminals are aware of the fact, and may strike at that point.

Indiana -- Police on Wednesday night released a composite sketch of a male they believe raped, robbed and carjacked an Indianapolis woman this week and had received numerous tips after that release.
The woman told police that she had just returned to her car in a downtown parking garage after work Monday when a male approached her, told her he had a weapon and forced her to drive him to a bank. The attacker made her withdraw money and raped her before she escaped, police said.
Also Wednesday, police said they're checking similarities between Monday's rape and an unsolved rape of a teacher in 2006.
Police said the teacher had just entered her car to leave the Sycamore School in April when a male entered the vehicle, pulled out a gun and told her to drive.
The gunman forced the teacher to drive to a nearby neighborhood before sexually assaulting her in the car, police said. Then they drove to a bank, where he made her withdraw money from an automated teller machine, police said.
They then drove to a different school and raped her in the car, according to police. The gunman then left the teacher, taking the money, her driver's license and her cell phone.

Use the door!
A woman was rescued by a co-worker after she was held at knifepoint by a masked man outside a hardware supply on on Friday evening, Redding police said.
Judith Schmidt, 19, was heading to her car in the store's parking lot after work when an unidentified man grabbed her, held a knife to her throat and forced her into the passenger seat, she said Saturday. Co-worker Theodore Lidgett, 59, had just gotten into his car, which was parked beside Schmidt's, when he saw the assault taking place about 9:20 p.m.
"I heard her scream and when I looked over, I saw a flash of light on the knife," Lidgett said.
Despite the assailant's warning to "get the bleep out of here," Lidgett pulled Schmidt out the passenger-side door. The man then came after Lidgett, who slammed him with the car door a few times.
"I was trying to keep that knife away," Lidgett said. "It was about 9 inches long."
Schmidt suffered a cut to her lower left leg. Lidgett was not injured.

Hazards at work, 27
The streets of Los Angeles are becoming more dangerous for city traffic officers.
Appalled by a growing increase in assaults against the 550 civilian employees who write parking tickets and direct traffic, city officials Monday endorsed state legislation to increase penalties for attackers.
Last week in Hollywood, for example, someone took a baseball bat to the windshield of a traffic enforcement officer's vehicle. Three other cars had their tires slashed. And one officer was pulled from his car and beaten with fists after an alleged assailant did not like the answer to a question he asked.
"This is just an indication of the intense violence our guys experience out there," said Jimmy Price, the city's chief of parking enforcement. "These kinds of situations traumatize our employees and make them reluctant to engage in their activities when they are in the field."
The number of assaults on traffic officers has increased steadily over the last five years, Price told a City Council panel.

G-string thing
A guy in a g-string. Very ... uhmmm "masculine".
A woman who lives alone in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky apparently awoke early Wednesday morning to a man standing over her bed and holding a knife.
The intruder told her to be still or he'd kill her, but instead, she fought back. Witnesses said he ran out the door and down the parking lot -- wearing nothing but a G-string.
The woman immediately called 911, but the knife-carrying attacker was gone.

Wal-Mart(ial) arts
Here's another report from a Wal-Mart parking lot in Murfreesboro, Tennessee (may seem like rather high-risk places...).
There are two contrasting sides to this incident.
First: The intended victim managed to keep her head cool, tricking her attacker to settle for her purse.
On the other side it is so typical (for women) to have everything but the kitchen sink in their purse. Not a big deal until someone gets hold of said purse.
The robber here now has (potentially) access to three homes, as well as credit information about the woman!
Story:
Tennessee -- A woman escaped an attempted kidnapping by a knife-wielding man Tuesday night when she offered her purse to the unknown suspect, Murfreesboro Police reported.
The 22-year-old woman was loading groceries into her car in a Wal-Mart parking lot at about 10:28 p.m. when the robber stuck a knife to her rib cage.
"He said, 'Don't scream. Get in the truck,'" the woman said. "He was trying to get me to get into the truck.
He wasn't after my purse. I was trying my best not to let him see that he scared the p... out of me. I tried to stay calm."
The victim told the robber that she had a purse with a lot of money in it, and the man took it and ran.
The purse held $26 in cash; a Bank of America ATM card; two Bank of America blank starter checks; a Tennessee Credit Union credit card; a driver's license; and keys to the victim's home and car, her mother's home and her boyfriend's apartment.

'Wrenched'
At a Wal-Mart parking lot in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, a 19-year-old woman reported to police a man tried to rape her.
The woman stated that when she got out of her car about 1:20 a.m., a male with black clothes, black ski mask, black gloves and black shoes grabbed her waist with one hand and her mouth with the other and forced her back into the car.
The woman told police that the man pulled a knife and attempted to cut off her shirt and rip her panties, and that he then blew some kind of smoke into her mouth.
