This is a sad reminder of what might happen if we do what I really hope any decent citizen would to - helping someone in need.
It is a crying shame that people like this man here, absolutely a hero in my book, doesn't receive more help.
The story also points at someone I've mentioned at several occasions - the danger that knives represent.
Story:
A hero who was left disabled after preventing a crazed knife attacker from killing his neighbour has blasted the lack of support he has received as he recovers from his injuries.
Simon de Blanc, 36, was stabbed repeatedly in Holtspur, after he went to the aid of a neighbour as she was attacked in her car.
Since last April's attack, Mr de Blanc, who used to earn £1,000 a week running his own business, has struggled to make ends meet on the £90 per week he receives in income support.

On familiar grounds
This man was in the right place at the right time, which means another man was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The culprit was only out of jail for a couple of hours and must've missed it; police say the first thing he did after getting out of jail was steal from a store.
One of the store clerks went outside to confront him about stealing cigarettes. He turned around and punched her, and would've hit her again if not for a good Samaritan who knows something about self defense.
James Sjostrom immediately ran outside to help. The thief tried to punch him, but missed. In no time, Sjostrom had him down.
"I just grabbed him and threw him on the ground and sat on him and waited for the police to arrive. I was trained in the marines as a close combat instructor, so I'm pretty familiar with takedown techniques."

'Can-do'
I suspect this customer is rewarded for his bravery - free applesauce for life maybe?
Story:
A customer at a city grocery tackled an armed robber and beat him with a can of applesauce when he refused to drop his gun, police said.
The suspect shot himself in the head during the struggle, and passed out after the 66-year-old customer administered four blows to the head with the Mott's applesauce.
Customer Thomas Santana, who is 5-foot-4, grabbed the 6-foot-1 gunman from behind when he was on the freezer, and with help from Gomez knocked him down.

Good dog
No doubt about it, a dog - even a regular one like this retriever - can be a great self-defense 'weapon'.
Story
UK -- A golden retriever called Rory has been hailed as a hero after putting put the bite on two thugs who tried to mug his owner.
Owner Tim Proctor, 42, was walking Rory in woods near his home when the two yobs bashed him across the head with a log.
But seven-year-old Rory -described as a softie by his owner - immediately sprang to Tim's rescue.
Rory bit one of the would-be muggers on the arm and refused to let go until they both fled.
