Idaho -- A convicted Ontario sex offender has allegedly made a list of 32 girls to "look up" once he gets out of jail. Now parents worry for their children's safety as the man is soon to be released.
One parent talked about how their kids in effect were prisoners. "we don't know what to do to make it better for them," the parent said.
Sheriff's deputies reportedly found a list the man had written. It was titled "people to look up". 32 local girls between the ages of 6 and 17 were on the list, including his original 15 year old victim.
In order to come up with his list, authorities alleges the man read newspaper articles about the girls. It is said the list is so detailed it that had everything short of an address to look these girls up.
And still we somehow tend to hang on to this all-to-prevalent idea about 'random violence'...

Fighting food
Some people seems to belong on the inside of a prison - and no, they're not the ones working there ...
Story:
Turkey -- On the day he was released from prison in Izmir after serving time for purse snatching, a 24-year-old man was taken into custody for trying to snatch the purse of 54-year-old woman.
The incident occurred Saturday evening in Izmir. The newly released purse-snatcher chose the woman, who was on her way out of the mall, as a victim.
After sneaking up from behind her, he tried to snatch her purse by pulling on it; however, the woman resisted so he tried to take her down.
The woman hit the purse-snatcher on his head with the grocery she had and began yelling for help. The man panicked and tried to escape.
He was captured by police teams patrolling the area shortly after the police was notified of his purse-snatching attempt.

Seems like this guy didn't want to be released from prison.
Story:
Louisiana -- A 70-year-old Dixon Correctional Institution inmate is accused of choking and attempting to rape a woman security officer at the Jackson prison Friday.
The inmate, who was arrested in 1984 and sent to Angola four years later on an attempted murder conviction, had been respected by security officers and other inmates alike, a warden said. The man was scheduled to be released in 2009.
The woman officer, who momentarily blacked out during the attack but regained consciousness to fend off the rape attempt, was not seriously injured, the warden said.
The attack occurred shortly after 10 a.m. as the officer and the inmate worked in a canteen at one of the two main housing units of the prison, bagging items for sale to inmates when the canteen would open.
The inmate is accused of using a bandanna from the canteen's inventory to temporarily subdue the officer, but she was able to resume her struggle as "he tried to take advantage of her," the spokesman said.
"She fought her way out of there," the spokesman said, adding that the officer eventually put out a call for help on her radio.

North Carolina -- A prisoner at the a Correctional Institute will face attempted rape charges after allegedly attacking a female guard and attempting to rape her in a bathroom at the prison on Sunday.
According to the Lillington Police Department, a female sergeant was working on paperwork in her office when the 40-year-old inmate entered the office. The door to the office automatically shut when he entered.
The sergeant was attempting to locate a clothes hanger for the inmate when he began pushing her into a bathroom. She fell to the floor with enough force to tear a bathroom toilet from its permanent mounting on the floor when she hit it with her neck.
Once he had her on the floor, the inmate was attempting to remove the woman's clothes with one hand while he tried to lock the bathroom door with the other.
The guard attempted to use her protective pepper spray to fend the attacker off, but was not successful. She also began screaming for help as she fought off her attacker.
Two prison employees told Lillington police they heard her screams and went to help. They went into the bathroom to find the inmate on top of the woman. They physically removed him and placed him in handcuffs.

Attempted rapist killed
India -- The Delhi High Court today acquitted a 30-year-old woman sentenced to life for killing her molester, holding that her act amounted to self-defence and not murder.
It was held that Simmi, a resident of Daryaganj was only trying to protect herself and did not "intend" to murder her assailant.
A Sessions Court had in September 21, 2006 sentenced Simmi to life imprisonment on finding her guilty of bludgeoning her atacker, identified as a vagabond, to death with a heavy stone in the early hours of April 22, 2004.
In her appeal, Simmi, through her counsel, contended that Mastana had attempted to rape her under the influence of alcohol. She had "pushed him away" in self-defence and he had fallen on a stone, fatally injuring himself on the head.

A recent attack on a nurse at Marquette Branch Prison suggests officials are classifying dangerous criminals as low-risk to save money, a union leader said.
State police are investigating reports that a 57-year-old rapist assaulted the female nurse on Saturday during an examination for abdominal pain.
The prisoner choked the nurse and threatened her with a razor blade he had concealed in his mouth.
The woman fought back and knocked a phone off the hook, setting off an alarm. Corrections officers subdued the inmate.
The man was assigned to the prison's minimum-security Trusty Division, despite six criminal sexual conduct convictions.

No control?
Scotland -- Most councils are not meeting minimum standards on supervising violent criminals, according to a report by inspectors.
Home visits are insufficient, supervision is failing to address offending behaviour and risk assessments are inadequate, according to the results of a nationwide review by the Social Work Inspection Agency (SWIA).
Earlier this month The Scotsman revealed that emergency orders had been placed on more than 60 high-risk sex offenders to control their movements, amid growing police frustration at the numbers being released from jail with few restrictions.

Teachers, role models
Wow - great role models for the kids; I'm impressed!
I guess zero tollerance is for students only?
Story:
A Dallas teacher who attacked a colleague inside her classroom while students watched was sentenced to six months in jail.
On the witness stand hoping to avoid punishment of up to 10 years in prison, the woman sought to minimize her responsibility for the April 2005 attack. She said that student witnesses had exaggerated their testimony and that school district employees who testified against her were "sticking together."
Seventh-grade science teacher Mary Oliver suffered a concussion, two broken ribs and a neck injury in the incident at the Oak Lawn school, but the assailant said she only recalled hitting Ms. Oliver once and "maybe making contact" when she kicked her a single time as she was being escorted from the classroom.

Stalking
The effect of stalking/violence can be devastating.
Story:
UK -- Sam Marshall used to think of her immaculate home on a council estate in Bridlington as a safe haven that provided a loving environment for her three children. Today it feels like a prison.
Ms Marshall, 32, has become the victim of a stalker whose campaign of terror has left her afraid to step outside. Even within the confines of the property she loves, she is constantly reminded of an attack that almost killed her.
She was almost throttled on her back doorstep by a man who has been repeatedly sighted staring into the house over the back garden, and who hung a dead frog from her security light within days of the near fatal attack.

The mind of a perpetrator
On a Wednesday afternoon last summer Naomi Bryant was walking along the street near her home hand in hand with a man she had bumped into in the local pub. A trusting, 40-year-old woman, she had invited the man back to her home but felt embarrassed when she caught sight of friends and dropped his hand. It was a deadly error.
When he was arrested two days after the attack in London, Rice told police he had picked on Ms Bryant because he judged she was "vulnerable".
Thirteen days after being released from prison, Rice was staying in a hostel for recently released prisoners in north London. After spending a night in a pub he stopped a 33-year-old woman in the street and asked her for directions. He attacked her, pushed her into a front garden and over the following hour he sexually assaulted her and threatened her with a knife.
Rice was easily found and told police: "People say rape is about sex, but this is only part of it. Rape is about power and I had power over her - sex is just an extension of it."

With friends like this...
Great friends, great "self-defense". Guess it is cool doing prison time over some money too?
Story:
An Indian worker has been sentenced to seven years in jail by a court in Dubai for stabbing to death a compatriot over repayment of a loan.
The defendant said he did not intend to kill his colleague and acted in self defence as the victim had held a knife at his face and grabbed his neck.

Patient to go to prison
Here's more on violence at work. There's - sometimes inevitably- a lot of it in psychiatric wards...
Story:
State officials on Friday crafted a solution that paves the way for Todd Van Dorn to move from a psychiatric ward at the Oregon State Hospital to a prison cell in the Oregon Department of Corrections.
Friday's new developments came after state hospital workers expressed outrage this week about Van Dorn's case. On Tuesday, Van Dorn was sentenced to almost six years in prison for beating hospital staff member Valerie Aerni in December 2004.
