India -- The Delhi High Court today acquitted a 30-year-old woman sentenced to life for killing her molester, holding that her act amounted to self-defence and not murder.
It was held that Simmi, a resident of Daryaganj was only trying to protect herself and did not "intend" to murder her assailant.
A Sessions Court had in September 21, 2006 sentenced Simmi to life imprisonment on finding her guilty of bludgeoning her atacker, identified as a vagabond, to death with a heavy stone in the early hours of April 22, 2004.
In her appeal, Simmi, through her counsel, contended that Mastana had attempted to rape her under the influence of alcohol. She had "pushed him away" in self-defence and he had fallen on a stone, fatally injuring himself on the head.

Sticks and stones ...
Scotland -- A 26-year-old woman fought off a would-be rapist with a stone, a court was told.
The 25-year-old Security guard, pounced as his victim walked past him around midnight as she went to buy a takeaway.
The man followed her, asked for sex and when she refused, dragged her into bushes and pushed her to the ground.
The High Court in Glasgow was told the woman put up a struggle and managed to pick up a stone and hit The culprit. He ran away and the woman managed to flag down a passing police car.

Story:
Colorado -- The woman told detectives she was getting into her vehicle last Saturday afternoon when the man, who was hiding in the back of the vehicle, threatened her with a knife.
The man forced the woman to drive to an unknown area near Central City. He dragged the woman from the car and took her into the woods where he tried to sexually assault her, police said.
During the struggle, the woman was able to strike the man in the forehead with a rock causing a large laceration on left side of the suspect's forehead, police said.
The woman was able to get back to her car and drive back to Thornton.

Lollipop rage
Put some people behind the wheel, and you have a dangerous predator in charge of a potential murder weapon (commonly known as car or vehicle).
FYI: Lollipop is a British term. It refers to people working as crossing guards in the UK.
Story:
A child could be killed by "arrogant and ignorant" motorists bringing a new form of dangerous driving to the area's roads - lollipop rage.
The phenomenon has seen everything from motorists driving through school crossing patrols to hurling abuse and even stones and bottles at lollipop people.
Now a campaign has been set up to tackle the increasing problem of lollipop people being terrorised by motorists, which is plaguing Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire.
Ellen Kershaw has been helping children cross the road outside Hook Norton Primary School for five years, but said lollipop rage had almost caused her to quit her job.
